What is Fractional Laser?
Fractional lasers used in laser skin resurfacing, are intended to treat or improve the appearance of skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage and Melasma. This skin resurfacing laser can target small areas, leaving surrounding skin uninterrupted. This targeted treatment can result in a faster, easier recovery. Fractional laser treatment will be customized to your needs by adjusting the power and depth of treatment. Prior to treatment, your skin care professional will evaluate and discuss your skin with you to figure out the best plan of treatment.
How is Fractional Laser Done?
To prepare the skin for treatment, the skin is cleansed and analyzed. Once your individualized treatment plan had been decided, treatment will include multiple passes of the laser depending on your skin’s tolerance and condition. The tip of the laser will be pressed firmly against the skin while your provider presses a button that emits the laser energy deep into the treatment area. This treatment can be uncomfortable and feel similar to a stinging sensation. While the treatment may be uncomfortable, it is quick and your skin will be cooled after the treatment to increase your comfort.
Laser resurfacing treatments are extremely effective but are not to be thought of as a quick fix. The recovery for this treatment will vary greatly depending on your skin type, the size of treatment area and type of skin concern. Many patients experience dryness and peeling while the skin heals from the treatment, and you may see that the treatment areas may darken while they heal and rise to the surface. Healing time for this treatment can take 1-2 weeks.
