What is Acne?

Acne (acne vulgaris) is a common skin condition that affects millions of people each year. Acne symptoms include pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, skin redness and skin discoloration, and cysts on the skin, which occur when the hair follicles and pores become clogged with excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Patients can experience anything from mild to severe acne, depending on a variety of factors, including hormones.

How Can You Treat Acne?

At Dominion MedSpa, we offer a wide range of effective acne treatments that will provide results that are longer-lasting and much more significant than any topical treatments with benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, and salicylic acid you’ll find on the market today. From chemical peels to laser treatment, we offer it all. If you’re struggling with acne breakouts, schedule a consultation today, and we’ll discuss which of the following acne treatments are right for you.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a facial skin rejuvenation service that removes dead skin cells with a customized scrub for exfoliation and light suction to pull out impurities. A Microdermabrasion treatment is particularly helpful for unclogging pores as well as stimulating the healing process for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture.

Fractional Laser

Fractional lasers used in laser skin resurfacing are intended to treat or improve the appearance of new and old acne scars. This skin resurfacing laser can target small areas, leaving surrounding skin uninterrupted. Prior to treatment, your skin care professional will evaluate and discuss your skin with you to figure out the best plan of treatment.

Photofacial

A Photofacial or IPL treatment is a light therapy treatment for the treatment of red or dark pigmentation left over from breakouts. The machine’s applicator delivers light energy that targets unwanted pigmentation in the skin, pulling it further towards the surface with each treatment. Eventually, these spots will slough away as dry skin, leaving you with a more even skin tone.

Microneedling

Microneedling is also an effective treatment for acne scarring, of both newer and older scars. This treatment uses tiny (micro) needles to produce micro-injury to the skin which stimulates the production of the body’s own collagen and elastin. It is very effective when done in a series, to help eliminate deep scarring and stretch marks. Numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes prior to the treatment, making it very comfortable. After treatment, you will be required to apply a full spectrum sunscreen SPF 50 or higher daily to protect your new baby skin in the treated areas.

High-Frequency Treatment

High frequency is a rejuvenating skin care treatment that utilizes a gentle electrical current encased in a glass handpiece to increase circulation, stimulate collagen, reduce acne, and improve pore size. It can be performed as a stand-alone treatment or as an add-on service with facials or microdermabrasions.
