Med Spa Trends for 2024

It’s the start of a new year and this means that there is no better time to pay a visit to your local med spa. Med spa’s have seen a surge of popularity recently and it’s no surprise why. Few people would say no to the opportunity to rejuvenate their body, improve their skin and just feel better overall. With constant advancements in technology and recent changes in the med spa industry, that means that it’s easier than ever to get the results that you want. In this article, you’ll find some of the most exciting trends you can expect from the med spa industry in 2024.

What Is a Med Spa?

A med spa combines the relaxing experience that you can only get from a traditional spa experience with many nonsurgical cosmetic services that can help to rejuvenate the skin and body. More and more people have begun to seek out cosmetic options that aren’t as invasive as many of the more traditional methods. A DWH Health & Wellness Med Spa provides these options and more thanks to being supervised by experienced and board-certified plastic surgeons as well as aesthetic nurse practitioners.

5 Great Trends in the Med Spa Industry in 2024

Microneedling

When it comes to skin treatments, few are as versatile as microneedling. Through the use of needles, millions of tiny punctures are created on the skin resulting in your body naturally repairing itself and creating healthier skin.

VI Peels

One of the more recent innovations in the world of med spa’s, this powerful blend of anti-aging ingredients and skin-exfoliating chemicals does wonders when it comes to getting rid of wrinkles, fine lines and other skin problems.

Botox and Dysport

Botox and Dysport are well-known for a reason. For decades, the two have been used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and winkles. Thanks to their effectiveness and quick recovery rates, these two treatments continue to be a top choice when it comes to cosmetic treatment.

Laser Hair Removal

Shaving sucks and having to do it on a regular basis is even worse. It’s no wonder that many people choose to get laser hair removal instead. Not only is the procedure relatively painless compared to other hair removal methods such as waxing, the results are also permanent.

Chemical Peels

Another modern innovation, chemical peels have proven to be a wonderful choice against sun-damage, texture issues and pigment changes. With each peel being designed to revitalize and rejuvenate all skin types, it’s obvious why this treatment is growing in popularity.

How to Spot a Great Med Spa

It doesn’t matter how great a treatment is if the person administering it isn’t an expert. Before you decide to give your skin a younger and more awakened look, make sure that the med spa you’re going to is staffed by certified experts with the technology to match their quality, just like here at DWH Health & Wellness Med Spa

A chemical peel is a non-invasive skin treatment that can address many different skin concerns. A chemical solution is applied superficially to treat wrinkles, correct sun spots, fade scars, and even remove layers of dead skin. There are many different types of chemical peels and each can be chosen depending on your personal needs and concerns.

What You Need To Know About Chemical Peels

How Do You Prepare For A Chemical Peel?

We recommend setting up a consultation with either one of our Master Estheticians who have been trained thoroughly in chemical peels. Your health history will be reviewed and you will be given an opportunity to discuss your reasons and your skin care goals to make sure a chemical peel is the correct choice for you. Your esthetician will give you a comprehensive explanation of what you can expect as far as prep, the procedure, your recovery, and the results. An examination of your skin will follow to determine the skin health along with photographs for the purpose of documentation.

Your esthetician will also give you an outline of other things you should avoid before the procedure. Following the protocols will reduce the risk of complications and accelerate the healing process.

Types Of Chemical Peels

When undergoing skin rejuvenation via a chemical peel, you have two of the following types to choose from:

  • Light Chemical Peel – This is a light and superficial procedure that removes the outer layer of the skin. This is the best peel if you are just looking to treat minor fine lines, wrinkles and light acne and looking for little to no downtime. It is performed every two to five weeks. Skin Better and ZO Skin Health both offer what would be considered a ‘lunchtime peel’
  • Medium-depth Chemical Peel – This is the most requested peel. It involves working on the middle layer of the skin. It treats more aggressive issues like uneven skin tone, acne scars, and wrinkles. Because this is a more intense chemical peel, there is a longer downtime and peeling can occur. The peel may need to be repeated 2 or 3 times to get the best results. We offer the VI Peel for this service.

What Happens After a Chemical Peel?

After the peel is over, you might have some slight uncomfortable irritations like redness or stinging. With the more intense medium depth peel, you might experience some peeling of the skin. Your esthetician will go over post treatment instructions per the type of chemical peel you just received but the main thing to remember is to wear SPF 30+ daily and to avoid direct sun exposure and to not pick at your skin while everything is healing. You’ll want to avoid any other forms of exfoliation but are encouraged to use non-irritating hydrating creams. To continue getting the best results, your esthetician might suggest scheduling your next one so you can stay on a plan.

Skin Care

Maintaining healthy skin requires routine care, including washing, cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. You can protect your skin from environmental harm by using antioxidant-rich products and sunscreen before going outside. You can also exfoliate your skin a few times a week to maintain a healthy and radiant complexion.

The ZO Skin Health line includes products for all skin types, including cleansers, exfoliators, moisturizers, and anti-aging treatments. They use high-quality components in their products and develop them to address specific skin issues like acne, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.

Skinbetter Science has quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and effective products. Their product line includes everything from cleansers and moisturizers to serums and masks, all designed to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are commonly used to enhance the complexion of the face and neck. This technique involves applying a chemical solution that causes the outer layer of skin to peel off, exposing the smoother, more radiant skin underneath.

Chemical peels are an excellent method for addressing many skin issues, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne, sun damage, and an unbalanced complexion. Chemical peels range from superficial to medium depth depending on the severity of your skin problems.

Before beginning treatment, your skin will be assessed thoroughly to ascertain the most effective method and technique.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses laser energy to target and destroy hair follicles, thereby inhibiting the development of unwanted body hair. This treatment is used on various areas of the body including the face, thighs, arms, and underarms.

A laser device delivers highly concentrated light energy into the hair follicles. The light energy is then absorbed by the pigment in the hair, damaging the follicle and inhibiting future hair growth.

Botox

Botox is a neurotoxin that is injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Popular targets of this procedure include wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. This procedure reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the treated regions. Botox injections have a short recovery time with results that can last up to four months.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a state-of-the-art cosmetic treatment that utilizes micro-needling and radiofrequency radiation to revitalize and enhance the skin’s appearance. This treatment can reduce the appearance of creases, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars on various body areas, including the face, neck, limbs, and abdomen.

Microchannels are created in the skin using a small instrument with very fine needles so that radiofrequency radiation may reach deeper layers of tissue. This energy helps the skin produce more collagen, tightening and appearing younger and firmer. The process is non-invasive and quick, with most patients reporting improvement after only a few treatments.

Chemical peels are a skin treatment that involves applying a custom chemical formula to the surface of your skin. The active ingredient causes deep exfoliation, which means dead cells are removed from the surface or deeper layers of your skin. Chemical peels can be used for many purposes like treating acne, lightening dark spots, and getting rid of wrinkles.

What to Expect in the 24 hours Following a Chemical Peel

Almost everyone who undergoes a chemical peel will experience redness, irritation, and scabbing to some degree. Expect the top layers of skin to be removed and the surface area to be more sensitive than usual.

You may also experience burning, which can last for up to 24 hours after your treatment. This is normal and means that the active ingredient is doing its job. Depending on your skin type, you may also experience peeling after a few days following treatment.

It’s important not to obsess over any discoloration or dead skin cells in the days immediately following a chemical peel, as this is all part of the healing process, and it will go away in time. In addition, it may take longer than 48 hours for these symptoms to subside if you have sensitive skin or if you are experiencing other problems like acne or rosacea. If this happens, you should consult with your physician about the next steps you should take.

Redness and Swelling

The most common symptoms in the 24 hours following a chemical peel are some redness and swelling. This natural reaction to the peel typically subsides in 1-2 days. Redness may be more noticeable on darker skin tones. Swelling is another common side effect that usually disappears after a few days.

Dry Skin

One thing that many people experience after a chemical peel is dry skin. This is because the chemical causes your pores to close, which means you have less oil on the surface of your skin. As a result, you may need to moisturize more often and use ingredients like shea butter or jojoba oil. In addition, it is also possible for your lips to feel dry and cracked.

Itching

Itching is a common side effect of a chemical peel. The skin will be more sensitive following the treatment, and for some people, the skin may become red and sore. The itchiness should go away after a day or two. It’s important not to scratch at your face aggressively even if it itches, as it’s more sensitive than usual during this time.

Discomfort

Another common side effect of a chemical peel is discomfort. You might experience some burning or tingling sensation during the treatment.

The skin will be highly sensitive for the first few days following a chemical peel, so you’ll need to take precautions to avoid sun exposure. Please seek medical advice about how long it will be before applying makeup.

Many people believe that their skin has been completely peeled off after a chemical peel, but this isn’t the case. The top layer of dead cells (stratum corneum) is removed during the treatment, but your natural oils are still intact. These oils will restore your skin’s natural barrier as time goes on.

Chemical Peels in Richmond, VA

A chemical peel is a popular skin treatment that uses a chemical solution to erase dull, dead layers of skin, revealing the healthier skin cells below. The treatment is non-invasive and is personalized to your goals and skin type. And although the skin is usually left red and dry for up to a week after the peel, leading to itching and discomfort, the long-term benefits typically outweigh this inconvenience in many patients’ opinions.
